En lingüística, elevar es la construcción donde un predicado / verbo toma un dependiente que no es su argumento semántico, sino que es el argumento semántico de un predicado incrustado. En otras palabras, un argumento que pertenece a un predicado incrustado se realiza sintácticamente como un dependiente de un predicado / verbo más alto. No todas las lenguas tienen predicados que aumentan, pero el inglés es uno que lo hace. El término "elevar" tiene su origen en el análisis transformacional de tales construcciones; El constituyente es visto como "elevado" desde su posición inicial como sujeto del predicado incrustado hasta su posición final como dependiente de la matriz predicado / verbo. Elevar predicados / verbos están relacionados con los predicados de control, aunque existen diferencias importantes entre los dos tipos de predicado / verbo.
