En la lógica matemática, una subestructura o subalgebra es una estructura cuyo dominio es un subconjunto del de una estructura más grande, y cuyas funciones y relaciones son las huellas de las funciones y relaciones de la estructura más grande. Algunos ejemplos de subalgebras son subgrupos, submonoides, subrings, subcampos, subalgebras de álgebras sobre un campo, o subgrafos inducidos. Cambiando el punto de vista, la estructura más grande se llama una extensión o una superestructura de su subestructura. En la teoría de modelos, el término "submodelo" se utiliza a menudo como sinónimo de subestructura, especialmente cuando el contexto sugiere una teoría de la cual ambas estructuras son modelos. En presencia de relaciones puede tener sentido relajar las condiciones en una subalgebra de modo que las relaciones en una subestructura débil sean como mucho las inducidas de la estructura más grande. Los subgrafos son un ejemplo donde la distinción importa, y el término "subgrafo" se refiere ciertamente a las subestructuras débiles. Los grupos ordenados, por otro lado, tienen la propiedad especial de que cada subestructura de un grupo ordenado que es en sí un grupo ordenado, es una subestructura inducida.
