Tacheometría
La taqueometría es un sistema de levantamiento rápido mediante el cual se determinan las posiciones horizontales y verticales de los puntos sobre la superficie terrestre relativamente entre sí sin utilizar una cadena o cinta o un instrumento de nivelación separado. Los métodos ordinarios de topografía con un teodolito, una cadena y un instrumento de nivelación son bastante satisfactorios cuando el suelo está bastante despejado de obstrucciones y no muy precipitado, pero se vuelve extremadamente engorroso cuando el suelo está cubierto de arbustos o descompuesto por barrancos. Las mediciones de la cadena se hacen entonces lentas y sujetas a errores considerables; La nivelación también se lleva a cabo en gran desventaja en cuanto a velocidad, aunque sin pérdida grave de precisión. Estas dificultades condujeron a la introducción de la tacheometría, en la que, en lugar del poste anteriormente empleado para marcar un punto, se utiliza un personal similar al de un nivel. Esta está marcada con alturas desde el pie, y se graduó según la forma de tacheómetro en uso. El ángulo azimutal se determina como anteriormente.
