Montañas de Tatra
Las montañas de Tatra, Tatras o Tatra (Tatry o en polaco y en eslovaco - plurale tantum), son una cordillera que forma una frontera natural entre Eslovaquia y Polonia. Son la cordillera más alta de los Cárpatos. Los Tatras deben ser distinguidos de los Tatras bajos (eslovaco: Nízke Tatry) que se localizan al sur de las montañas de Tatra en Eslovaquia. Las montañas de Tatra ocupan una superficie de 785 kilómetros cuadrados, de los cuales unos 610 kilómetros cuadrados (77,7%) se encuentran en Eslovaquia y unos 175 kilómetros cuadrados (22,3%) en la Territorio de Polonia. El pico más alto llamado Gerlach, a 2.655 m (8710 pies) está situado al norte de Poprad. El punto más alto de Polonia, Rysy, a 2.499 m (8200 pies) está situado al sur de Zakopane. La longitud de los Tatras, medida desde las estribaciones orientales de la Kobyli Wierch (1109 m) hasta el pie sudoeste de Ostry Wierch Kwaczański (1128 m), en línea recta, es de 57 km (53 millas) Según algunos), y estrictamente a lo largo de la cresta principal, 80 km (50 mi).
