Georg Philipp Telemann
Georg Philipp Telemann fue un compositor barroco alemán y multi-instrumentista. Casi completamente autodidacta en música, se convirtió en un compositor contra los deseos de su familia. Después de estudiar en Magdeburgo, Zellerfeld y Hildesheim, Telemann entró en la Universidad de Leipzig para estudiar derecho, pero finalmente se estableció en una carrera musical. Realizó importantes cargos en Leipzig, Sorau, Eisenach y Frankfurt antes de establecerse en Hamburgo en 1721, donde se convirtió en director musical de las cinco principales iglesias de la ciudad. Mientras que la carrera de Telemann prosperó, su vida personal estaba siempre preocupada: su primera esposa murió pocos meses después de su matrimonio, y su segunda esposa tuvo relaciones extramaritales y acumuló una gran deuda de juego antes de dejar Telemann. Telemann fue uno de los compositores más prolíficos de la historia y fue considerado por sus contemporáneos como uno de los principales compositores alemanes de la época. Fue comparado favorablemente con su amigo Johann Sebastian Bach, que hizo de Telemann el padrino y homónimo de su hijo Carl Philipp Emanuel, ya George Frideric Handel, a quien Telemann también conocía personalmente.
