Telidon era un servicio de videotexto / teletexto desarrollado por el Canadian Communications Research Center a finales de los años setenta y apoyado por empresas comerciales dirigidas por Infomart a principios de los años ochenta. El CRC se refirió a Telidon como un sistema de "segunda generación", que ofrece un rendimiento mejorado, gráficos en color 2D, soporte multilingüe y una serie de opciones de interactividad diferentes soportadas en varios equipos. Con las características adicionales añadidas por AT \u0026 amp; T Corporation, y otros 16 contribuyentes en Norteamérica y con el apoyo del Gobierno Federal, Telidon fue redefinido como un protocolo y se convirtió en el estándar NAPLPS. Inicialmente en múltiples pruebas, Telidon no demostró funcionalidad convincente, y los costos de equipos auxiliares se mantuvieron altos. Aunque proyectos como GRASSROOTS para la Provincia de Manitoba, SOI para Venezuela, Compuserve, LA Times en California, EPIC para General Motors, NOVATEX para Teleglobe Canadá y la aplicación suiza PTT a nivel nacional, demostraron los conceptos, El 31 de marzo de 1985, y los diversos servicios comerciales que se basan en ella se cerraron poco después.
