Uranita
La uraninita es un mineral y mineral ricos en uranio con una composición química que es en gran medida UO2, pero debido a la oxidación el mineral contiene típicamente U3O8 variable. Además, debido a la desintegración del uranio, contiene óxidos de plomo y trazas de helio. También puede contener torio y elementos de tierras raras. Es más comúnmente conocido como pechblenda. El mineral ha sido conocido por lo menos desde el siglo XV de las minas de plata en las montañas del mineral, en la frontera alemana / checa. La localidad tipo es la ciudad de Jáchymov, en el lado checo de las montañas, donde F.E.Brückmann describió el mineral en 1772. Pitchblende del depósito Johanngeorgenstadt en Alemania fue utilizado por M. Klaproth en 1789 para descubrir el elemento uranio. Todos los minerales de uraninita contienen una pequeña cantidad de radio como producto de desintegración radiactiva del uranio. La uraninita también contiene siempre pequeñas cantidades de isótopos de plomo 206Pb y 207Pb, los productos finales de la serie de decaimiento de los isótopos de uranio 238U y 235U, respectivamente. Pequeñas cantidades de helio también están presentes en la uraninita como resultado de la desintegración alfa.
