Las artes visuales son formas de arte que crean obras primordialmente visuales, como cerámica, dibujo, pintura, escultura, grabado, diseño, artesanía, fotografía, video, cine y arquitectura. Antes del Movimiento de Artes y Oficios en Gran Bretaña y en otros lugares a principios del siglo XX, el término "artista" se limitaba a menudo a una persona que trabajaba en las bellas artes y no a la artesanía, artesanía o medios artísticos aplicados.
