Anfisbaenia
La anfisbaenia es un grupo de squamates generalmente sin piernas, que comprende más de 180 especies existentes. Los anfisbaenios se caracterizan por cuerpos largos, reducción o pérdida de los miembros y ojos rudimentarios. Como muchas especies poseen una coloración rosada del cuerpo y escalas dispuestas en anillos, tienen un parecido superficial a las lombrices de tierra. Todos son limbless a excepción de Bipes, que retiene los antebrazos. Aunque superficialmente similares a las serpientes y Dibamidae, estudios filogenéticos recientes sugieren que están más estrechamente relacionados con los Lacertidae. Amphisbaenians se distribuyen extensamente, ocurriendo en Norteamérica, Europa, África, Suramérica, y el Caribe. La mayoría de las especies tienen menos de 6 pulgadas de largo. Poco se sabe de ellos fuera de su anatomía, e incluso eso es difícil de estudiar debido a la mecánica de disección de animales tan pequeños.
