गर्ग नाम के अनेक आचार्य हो गए हैं। आयुर्वेद, वास्तुशास्त्र आदि विभिन्न विद्याओं के आचार्य गर्ग एक ही व्यक्ति हैं, ऐसे नहीं कहा जा सकता। इनके काल भी भिन्न-भिन्न हैं। आयुर्वेदशास्त्रज्ञ गर्ग के विषय में आयुर्वेद का इतिहास द्रष्टव्य है। वास्तुशास्त्रविद् गर्ग भी प्रसिद्ध हैं। इनका काल ईसा पूर्व द्वितीय शताब्दी से ईसा की प्रथम शताब्दी के बीच है । ज्योतिर्विद्याविद् गर्ग पुराणों में समृत हैं। मत्स्यपुराण 229-238; महाभारत, गदापर्व 9। 14; भगवत, 10। 8 अ.
