Robot es un dispositivo mecánico o virtual que puede realizar tareas físicas o software, ya sea mediante el monitoreo y control humano, o mediante el uso de un programa que se ha definido como inteligencia artificial. La palabra robot puede referirse a ambos, pero el robot virtual generalmente se conoce como un bot de internet. La primera palabra robot fue utilizada por Isaac Asimov en su cuento de ciencia ficción "runaround".
