Arion - un poeta mitad mítico y guitarrista griego. Arion vivió en el siglo VII a. y vino de la isla de Lesbos. Estaba en la corte de Periander, tirano Corinto. Él es considerado el creador de dictrim. Según la leyenda, tuvo que navegar a Sicilia para participar en la competencia ganadora para él. Żeglarze odwożący artystę do Koryntu na pełnym morzu powzięli plan, żeby Ariona zrzucić w topiel i tak posiąść jego skarby. On to zauważył i kornie ich błagał, aby mu tylko życie darowali w zamian za wydanie skarbów. Ale żeglarze nie dali się zmiękczyć, tylko rozkazali mu, żeby albo sam sobie życie odebrał, po czym na lądzie otrzyma grób, albo bezzwłocznie wskoczył do morza.
