Gambito: una apertura de ajedrez donde uno o más jugadores pasan el juego a cambio de una mejor posición. La mayoría de los gambits están dedicados a peones, pero también se conocen gambits más arriesgados, que se basan en dar un jumper u otro alfil. Los gambitos correctos usan al menos dos de las siguientes tres formas para obtener una mejor posición: ▪ tempo: el oponente pierde un movimiento en la rampa. Si supera a la figura, por lo general pierde otro movimiento para cambiarla, porque la gambita se sacrifica en campos donde las figuras del oponente no son seguras o son de poca utilidad. La pérdida de tempo también ocurre cuando el peón del oponente después de los dos peones cae presa de la figura en desarrollo. ▪ actividad: la paliza se elimina de la posición activa, lo que permite a nuestros fildeadores ocupar los campos que, sin sacrificio, no estarían disponibles. En algunos casos, la pérdida del propio Peón facilita el desarrollo de figuras, especialmente torres u obispos, que ocupan posiciones activas en columnas abiertas o diagonales.
