Perge - la más importante de las antiguas ciudades de Panfilia. Según la leyenda, la ciudad fue fundada en el siglo XIII aC por Mopsos y Kalhas - refugiados de Troya. Pawła rozpoczął się chrześcijański okres historii miasta. W V wieku miasto było już siedzibą biskupa.
