Trochus

Trochus es una especie de caracol marino con forma de cono casi regular, que tiene una gruesa capa de perla decorativa. Altura de la concha 5-15 cm. Conchaolin, circular, delgado. Epipodium bien desarrollado, con tentáculos, que actúa como el cuerpo del toque. Pueden ser jalados a la vagina. Trochus es el hogar de la gran mayoría de los mares ricos en pastos marinos, desde los trópicos hasta la zona templada. El centro de su existencia es el Indo-Pacífico, donde el más abundante y el más llamativo. Se usan en varios tipos de fondos costeros, desde arenosos hasta rocosos, rocosos y arrecifes de coral. Las especies de trochus más grandes a veces son comidas por nativos. De particular importancia son las conchas de algunos de estos caracoles, que se capturan a gran escala con el fin de obtener un nácar, principalmente utilizado para la producción de botones. Trochus – rodzaj morskich ślimaków o muszlach w kształcie prawie regularnego stożka, posiadających wewnątrz grubą warstwę dekoracyjnej masy perłowej. Wysokość muszli 5-15 cm. Wieczko konchiolinowe, koliste, cienkie. Epipodium dobrze rozwinięte, z czułkowatymi wyrostkami, służącymi jako organ dotyku. Mogą one być wciągane do rodzaju pochwy. Trochusy zamieszkują zdecydowaną większość mórz pełnosłonych od tropików po strefę umiarkowaną. Centrum ich występowania stanowi Indopacyfik, gdzie skrępy są najliczniejsze i najozdobniejsze. Bytują na różnych typach dna wód przybrzeżnych - od piaszczystego przez kamieniste po skały i rafy koralowe. Większe gatunki trochusów są czasem jadane przez krajowców. Szczególne znaczenie gospodarcze mają muszle niektórych ślimaków z tego rodzaju, poławianych na dużą skalę dla zdobycia masy perłowej, służącej głównie do produkcji guzików. Okazalszych muszli miejscowa ludność używa do wyrobu bransolet. Do rodziny krępaczkowatych należą również inne, podobne rodzaje ślimaków.
