Los mambos son serpientes de madera venenosas de la familia de los aspidios. Se encuentran en África, al sur del Sahara y viven en madrigueras abandonadas o pilas de piedras. Al estar activos durante el día, cazan pequeños mamíferos, polluelos, ranas arborícolas y lagartos. Se mueve en el suelo, en casos raros, trepa árboles y arbustos. Después de morder, los mambs intentan morder varias veces más. Su veneno altamente tóxico contiene varias neurotoxinas y tiene un agente nervioso. La mordedura de una mamba sin tomar un antídoto termina, por regla general, con la muerte.

Будучи активными в дневное время, охотятся на мелких млекопитающих, птенцов, древесных лягушек и ящериц. Передвигается по земле, в редких случаях поднимается на деревья и кустарники. После укуса мамбы пытаются укусить ещё несколько раз. Их высокотоксичный яд содержит различные нейротоксины и обладает нервно-паралитическим свойством. Укус мамбы без принятия противоядия оканчивается, как правило, смертью.
