Savan

Savan o savanna es una gran pradera en la zona de transición entre los bosques lluviosos tropicales y los desiertos secos. En las regiones tropicales donde la estación seca dura mucho tiempo, es una comunidad de plantas que consiste en grandes prados salpicados con un solo árbol. La sabana, que es la principal comunidad de plantas en Sudáfrica y el este de África, se compone de plantas de rizoma y pasto de trigo, que a veces son de unos dos metros de altura. Esta región proporciona un entorno adecuado para algunas de las especies de vida silvestre más interesantes del mundo. Los valles maduros de los prados principal y ancho de América del Norte también se utilizan como pastos. Ana'nın görece kurak stepleri ile Kuzey Amerika'nın geniş çayırları da otlak olarak kullanılan alanlardandır. Coğrafi bölgelerin kesin sınırları olmadığından bunlar geçiş bölgeleriyle çevrilidir. Bu durum bitki örtüsü kuşakları için de geçerlidir. Büyük ormanların yetişmesi için yeterli olmamakla birlikte belirli ölçüde yağış alan bölgelerde geniş çayırlar uzanır. Bu çayırlara tropik bölgelerin daha az yağış alan kesimlerinde ve astropik bölgelerde savan, kıtaların iç kesimlerinde ise step denir. Tropikal iklim bölgelerinde görülen uzun boylu ot topluluklarıdır.
