Es un elemento de circuito electrónico de semiconductor que se usa como elemento de conmutación, si es necesario, para proporcionar ganancia de voltaje y corriente al elevar la señal aplicada a la entrada de puerta o transistor. BJT es un transistor de superficie de doble unión. Consta de dos elementos N, un elemento P o dos elementos P, un elemento N. El transistor es un elemento de circuito tripolar. El polo central en el símbolo del circuito se llama Base, el polo en el que se encuentra se llama Emisor, el otro se llama Colector Polar. Las corrientes del colector y del emisor se ajustan de acuerdo con la severidad de la corriente de base. Esta relación de ajuste depende del factor de ganancia. Los transistores son los componentes básicos de los dispositivos electrónicos. Los dispositivos electrónicos utilizados en la vida cotidiana pueden tener tantos transistores como varios miles de millones.
