Aedes
Aedes est un genre de moustiques initialement trouvés dans les zones tropicales et subtropicales, mais maintenant retrouvés sur tous les continents, à l'exception de l'Antarctique. Certaines espèces ont été répandues par activité humaine. Aedes albopictus, une espèce la plus envahissante, a récemment été propagée dans le Nouveau Monde, y compris aux États-Unis, par le commerce des pneus usés. D'abord décrite et nommée par Meigen en 1818, le nom générique provient du grec ancien ἀηδής, aēdēs, signifiant «désagréable» ou «odieux». Certaines espèces de ce genre transmettent des maladies graves, notamment la dengue et la fièvre jaune. En Polynésie, l'espèce Aedes polynesiensis est responsable de la transmission de la filariose lymphatique humaine. L'Aedes peut être détecté et surveillé par des ovitraps. Le génome des moustiques de la fièvre jaune a été séquencé par le Broad Institute et The Institute for Genomic Research. L'assemblage initial a été publié en août 2005; Une brève séquence du génome et une analyse préliminaire a été publiée en juin 2007. Le génome annoté est disponible sur VectorBase.
