Athétosis
L'athétosis est un symptôme caractérisé par des mouvements lents, involontaires, enroulés, se tordant des doigts, des mains, des orteils et des pieds et, dans certains cas, des bras, des jambes, du cou et de la langue. Les mouvements typiques de l'athétosis sont parfois appelés mouvements atheides. Les lésions au cerveau sont le plus souvent la cause directe des symptômes, en particulier pour le corps strié. Ce symptôme ne se produit pas seul et est souvent accompagné des symptômes de la paralysie cérébrale, car cela est souvent le résultat de cette maladie. Les traitements pour l'athétosis ne sont pas très efficaces et, dans la plupart des cas, sont simplement destinés au mouvement incontrôlable plutôt qu'à la cause elle-même.
