Otoscope
Un otoscope ou un auriscope est un dispositif médical qui sert à regarder dans les oreilles. Les fournisseurs de soins de santé utilisent des otoscopes pour détecter une maladie pendant les examens réguliers et aussi pour enquêter sur un symptôme impliquant les oreilles. Avec un otoscope, il est possible de voir l'oreille externe et l'oreille moyenne. Les otoscopes se composent d'une poignée et d'une tête. La tête contient une source de lumière et une simple lentille de faible puissance, généralement autour de 8 dioptries. L'extrémité distale de l'otoscope a une fixation pour les spéculums d'oreille en plastique jetables. L'examinateur redresse d'abord le canal auditif en tirant sur le pinna, puis insère le côté spéculum de l'otoscope dans l'oreille externe. Il est important d'installer la main qui maintient l'otoscope contre la tête du patient pour éviter d'endommager le canal auditif en plaçant l'index ou le petit doigt contre la tête. L'examinateur peut alors regarder à travers une lentille à l'arrière de l'instrument et voir à l'intérieur du canal auditif. Dans de nombreux modèles, la lentille peut être enlevée, ce qui permet à l'examinateur d'insérer des instruments à travers l'otoscope dans le canal auditif, comme pour enlever le cérumen.
