Auxochrome
Un auxochrome est un groupe d'atomes attaché à un chromophore qui modifie la capacité de ce chromophore à absorber la lumière. Ils ne produisent pas eux-mêmes la couleur; Mais lorsqu'il est présent avec les chromophores dans un composé organique, intensifie la couleur du chromogène. Les exemples comprennent le groupe hydroxyle, le groupe amino et un groupe aldéhyde. Un auxochrome est un groupe fonctionnel d'atomes avec des électrons non liés qui, lorsqu'ils sont attachés à un chromophore, altèrent à la fois la longueur d'onde et l'intensité d'absorption. Si ces groupes sont en conjugaison directe avec le système pi du chromophore, ils peuvent augmenter la longueur d'onde à laquelle la lumière est absorbée et, par conséquent, intensifier l'absorption. Une caractéristique de ces auxochromes est la présence d'au moins une paire isolée d'électrons qui peuvent être considérés comme étendant le système conjugué par résonance.
