Barographe
Un barographe est un baromètre anéroïde d'enregistrement. Un barographe est utilisé pour surveiller la pression. Le pointeur dans un baromètre anéroïde est remplacé par un stylo. Il produit un diagramme en papier ou en feuille appelé un barogramme qui enregistre la pression barométrique au fil du temps. Les barographes utilisent une ou plusieurs cellules anéroïdes agissant par l'intermédiaire d'un train d'engrenages ou de levier pour conduire un bras d'enregistrement qui a son extrémité extrême, soit un scribe ou un stylo. Des enregistrements de scribe sur des feuilles fumées tandis qu'un stylo enregistre sur papier à l'aide d'encre, maintenu dans un bourrelet. Le matériau d'enregistrement est monté sur un tambour cylindrique qui tourne lentement par un mécanisme d'horlogerie. Généralement, le tambour fait une révolution par jour, par semaine ou par mois et le taux de rotation peut souvent être sélectionné par l'utilisateur. Puisque la quantité de mouvement qui peut être générée par un seul anéroïde est minime, jusqu'à sept anéroïdes sont souvent empilés "en série" pour amplifier leur mouvement. Il a été inventé en 1844 par le Français Lucien Vidi. Comme la pression atmosphérique répond de manière prévisible aux changements d'altitude, les barographes peuvent être utilisés pour enregistrer les changements d'élévation lors d'un vol d'avion.
