Calorimètre
Un calorimètre est un objet utilisé pour la calorimétrie, ou le processus de mesure de la chaleur des réactions chimiques ou des changements physiques ainsi que de la capacité calorifique. Les calorimètres de balayage différentiel, les microcalorimètres isothermes, les calorimètres de titrage et les calorimètres à vitesse accélérée sont parmi les types les plus courants. Un simple calorimètre se compose d'un thermomètre attaché à un récipient métallique plein d'eau suspendue au-dessus d'une chambre de combustion. Pour trouver le changement d'enthalpie par mole d'une substance A dans une réaction entre deux substances A et B, les substances sont ajoutées à un calorimètre et les températures initiale et finale sont notées. En multipliant le changement de température par la masse et les capacités thermiques spécifiques des substances donne une valeur pour l'énergie dégagée ou absorbée pendant la réaction. La division du changement d'énergie par le nombre de moles de A était présent donne son changement de réaction d'enthalpie. Cette méthode est utilisée principalement dans l'enseignement universitaire puisqu'elle décrit la théorie de la calorimétrie. Il ne tient pas compte de la perte de chaleur dans le récipient ou de la capacité calorifique du thermomètre et du récipient lui-même.
