Lampe à arc
Une lampe à arc ou une lumière à arc est une lampe qui produit de la lumière par un arc électrique. La lumière de l'arc de carbone, qui consiste en un arc entre les électrodes de carbone dans l'air, inventé par Humphry Davy au début des années 1800, était la première lumière électrique pratique. Il a été largement utilisé à partir des années 1870 pour la rue et l'éclairage des grands bâtiments jusqu'à ce qu'il soit remplacé par la lumière incandescente au début du 20ème siècle. Il a continué à être utilisé dans des applications plus spécialisées où une source de lumière à point de haute intensité était nécessaire, comme les projecteurs, jusqu'à la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
