Arrêt cardiaque
L'arrêt cardiaque, également connu sous le nom d'arrêt cardiopulmonaire ou d'arrêt circulatoire, est la cessation de la circulation fonctionnelle du sang en raison de l'incapacité du cœur de contracter efficacement. Le personnel médical peut se référer à un arrêt cardiaque inattendu en cas d'arrêt cardiaque soudain. Un arrêt cardiaque est différent d'une crise cardiaque, où le flux sanguin vers le muscle du cœur est altéré. Il est différent de l'insuffisance cardiaque congestive, où la circulation est insuffisante, mais le cœur pompe toujours suffisamment de sang pour soutenir la vie. La circulation sanguine arrêtée empêche la délivrance d'oxygène et de glucose au corps. Le manque d'oxygène et de glucose dans le cerveau provoque une perte de conscience, ce qui entraîne une respiration anormale ou absente. Une lésion cérébrale se produira probablement si l'arrêt cardiaque n'est pas traité pendant plus de cinq minutes. Pour les meilleures chances de survie et de récupération neurologique, un traitement immédiat et décisif est impératif. L'arrêt cardiaque est une urgence médicale qui, dans certaines situations, est potentiellement réversible si traité tôt. Un arrêt cardiaque inattendu peut entraîner la mort en quelques minutes: cela s'appelle la mort cardiaque soudaine.
