En mathématiques, un produit cartésien est une opération mathématique qui renvoie un ensemble de plusieurs ensembles. C'est-à-dire pour les ensembles A et B, le produit cartésien A × B est l'ensemble de toutes les paires ordonnées où a ∈ A et b ∈ B. Le cas le plus simple d'un produit cartésien est le carré cartésien, qui renvoie un ensemble à partir de deux ensembles . Une table peut être créée en prenant le produit cartésien d'un ensemble de lignes et d'un ensemble de colonnes. Si les lignes de produits cartésiennes × colonnes sont prises, les cellules de la table contiennent des paires ordonnées de la forme. Un produit cartésien de n ensembles peut être représenté par un tableau de n dimensions, où chaque élément est un n-tuple. Une paire ordonnée est un 2-tuple. Le produit cartésien est nommé d'après René Descartes, dont la formulation de la géométrie analytique a donné naissance au concept.
