Comecon
Le Conseil pour l'assistance économique mutuelle était une organisation économique de 1949 à 1991 sous la direction de l'Union soviétique qui comprenait les pays du Bloc de l'Est avec un certain nombre d'États socialistes ailleurs dans le monde. Le Comecon a été la réponse du Bloc de l'Est à la formation de l'Organisation pour la coopération économique européenne en Europe occidentale. Le terme descriptif a souvent été appliqué à toutes les activités multilatérales impliquant des membres de l'organisation plutôt que de se limiter aux fonctions directes du Comecon et de ses organes. Cette utilisation a parfois été étendue aux relations bilatérales entre les membres, car dans le système des relations économiques socialistes internationales, les accords multilatéraux - généralement de nature générale - ont tendance à être mis en œuvre dans le cadre d'un ensemble d'accords bilatéraux plus détaillés. Selon certains historiens, Moscou était préoccupé par le plan Marshall. Le Comecon était alors censé empêcher les pays de la sphère d'influence des Soviétiques de progresser vers ceux des Américains et de l'Asie du Sud-Est.
