Coopérative
La coopérativité est un phénomène affiché par des systèmes impliquant des éléments identiques ou presque identiques, qui agissent indépendamment l'un de l'autre, par rapport à un système hypothétique non interactif standard dans lequel les éléments individuels agissent de manière indépendante. Une des manifestations de ceci sont des enzymes ou des récepteurs qui ont des sites de liaison multiples où l'affinité des sites de liaison pour un ligand est apparemment augmentée, une coopérative positive ou une coopérative diminuée et négative, lors de la liaison d'un ligand à un site de liaison. Par exemple, l'affinité des quatre sites de liaison de l'hémoglobine pour l'oxygène est supérieure à celle de l'hémoglobine non liée lorsque la première molécule d'oxygène se lie. Ceci est appelé liaison coopérative. Nous voyons également la coopérative dans les molécules à grande chaîne constituées de nombreuses sous-unités identiques, lorsque de telles molécules subissent des transitions de phase telles que la fusion, le déploiement ou le déroulement. C'est ce qu'on appelle la coopérative de sous-unités. Cependant, la définition de la coopérative basée sur une augmentation apparente ou une diminution de l'affinité aux étapes successives de liaison du ligand est problématique, car la notion d'énergie doit toujours être définie par rapport à un état standard.
