Un tel comportement est en cours de recherche pour être utilisé dans des applications d'armure corporelle par des entreprises comme Dow Corning avec leur système de protection active. Une grande partie des propriétés de ces systèmes est due à la chimie de surface des particules en dispersion, connues sous le nom de colloïdes.
