Ericoïde
Le mot «ericoïde» est utilisé dans la terminologie biologique moderne pour ses significations littérales et pour les extensions. Etymologiquement, le mot dérive de deux racines grecques par des adaptations latines. Tout d'abord, le nom grec ancien pour les plantes maintenant connues en anglais comme «bruyère» était «ἐρείκη», qui est censé être latinisé par Pline comme «Erica». Linnaeus, qui a surtout écrit en latin, a utilisé Erica comme le nom du genre qui est encore connu comme tel. Cependant, lorsque Linnaeus a nommé un organisme, en utilisant une épithète spécifique qui l'a décrit comme étant une chose particulière, il l'a souvent fait en ajoutant le suffixe "-sειδης". C'était une contraction de "-o + ειδος", dénotant une ressemblance de forme. Dans sa forme latinise, il est devenu: "-oides". Un exemple est l'entrée 9413 Stilbe ericoides selon Wappler's Index Plantarum à Linnaeus '' Species Plantarum ''. D'autres dérivations ont émergé au besoin ou à la commodité, comme "-oidea". En conséquence, ericoïde pourrait avoir plus d'une signification et il a été mal appliqué de temps en temps dans la littérature.
