Fibrille
La fibrille est une fibre fine, comme une myofibrille ou une neurofibril. Les neurofilaments ont environ 10 nanomètres de diamètre. Des fibrilles cytoplasmiques sont observées sur les cylindres protoplasmiques trouvés dans la plupart des espèces spirochales, bien qu'aucune fonction des fibrilles cytoplasmiques n'a été attribuée. Les polysaccharides, l'union de plusieurs monosaccharides liés, servent parfois de composé structurel. La cellulose forme des cordes en forme de câble, connues sous le nom de fibrilles dans les parois résistantes qui entourent les cellules végétales. Alors que la cellulose est une compilation de monomères de glucose, ils forment des brins longs non ramifiés au lieu de bobines comme l'amidon ou le glycogène. Ceux-ci sont disposés en lignes parallèles qui se forment l'une sur l'autre dans une couche complexe par liaison hydrogène. On dit que le muscle de vol d'insecte est fibrillaire, en ce qu'il se contracte en réponse à un étirement par un muscle antagoniste, de manière à permettre une contraction très rapide.
