Produit de fission nucléaire
Les produits de fission nucléaire sont les fragments atomiques laissés après une grande fission de noyau atomique. Typiquement, un grand noyau comme celui des cibles d'uranium en se divisant en deux noyaux plus petits, avec quelques neutrons et une libération d'énergie sous forme de chaleur et de rayons gamma. Les deux noyaux plus petits sont les "produits de fission". Voir les produits Fission. La fission ternaire, d'environ 0,2% à 0,4% des fissions, produit également un troisième noyau lumineux tel que l'hélium-4 ou le tritium. Les produits de fission produits par la fission sont eux-mêmes souvent instables, en raison d'une richesse relativement neutronique pour leur nombre atomique, et ils sont très rapidement soumis à une désintégration bêta, libérant de l'énergie supplémentaire sous forme de particules bêta, d'antinétain et de rayons gamma supplémentaires. Les événements de fission sont donc des sources normales de rayonnement bêta et d'antinétaines, même si ces particules ne sont pas produites directement dans l'événement de fission elle-même. Beaucoup de ces isotopes ont une demi-vie très courte, et donc émettent d'énormes quantités de rayonnement. Par exemple, Strontium 90, 89 et 94 sont tous des produits de fission, ils sont produits dans des quantités similaires, et chaque noyau se désintègre en tirant sur une particule bêta.
