La psychologie de la gestalt ou le gestaltisme est une théorie de l'esprit de l'école de Berlin. Le principe central de la psychologie de la gestalt est que l'esprit forme un ensemble global avec des tendances auto-organisées. Ce principe maintient que l'esprit humain considère les objets dans leur intégralité avant ou en parallèle avec la perception de leurs parties individuelles; Suggérant que l'ensemble est autre que la somme de ses parties. La psychologie de la Gestalt tente de comprendre les lois de notre capacité à acquérir et à maintenir des perceptions significatives dans un monde apparemment chaotique. Dans le domaine de la perception, les psychologues de Gestalt stipulent que les perceptions sont les produits d'interactions complexes entre divers stimuli. Contrairement à l'approche behavioriste de la compréhension des éléments des processus cognitifs, les psychologues de la gestalt cherchaient à comprendre leur organisation. L'effet gestalt est la capacité de notre cerveau à générer des formes entières, en particulier en ce qui concerne la reconnaissance visuelle des figures mondiales plutôt que des collections d'éléments simples et indépendants. En psychologie, le gestaltisme s'oppose souvent au structuralisme.
