Fréquence intermédiaire
Dans les communications et le génie électronique, une fréquence intermédiaire est une fréquence à laquelle une fréquence porteuse est décalée comme une étape intermédiaire de transmission ou réception. La fréquence intermédiaire est créée en mélangeant le signal de porteuse avec un signal d'oscillateur local dans un processus appelé hétérodynchronisation, ce qui donne un signal à la différence ou à la fréquence de battement. Les fréquences intermédiaires sont utilisées dans les récepteurs radio superheterodyne, dans lesquels un signal entrant est décalé vers une IF pour une amplification avant que la détection finale ne soit effectuée. La conversion en une fréquence intermédiaire est utile pour plusieurs raisons. Lorsque plusieurs étapes de filtres sont utilisées, elles peuvent toutes être réglées sur une fréquence fixe, ce qui les rend plus faciles à construire et à régler.
