Jacobitisme
Le Jacobitism était le mouvement politique en Grande-Bretagne et en Irlande pour restaurer le catholique romain Stuart King James II d'Angleterre et ses héritiers aux trônes d'Angleterre, d'Ecosse et d'Irlande. Le mouvement a pris son nom de Jacobus, la forme latinisée de James, et se réfère à une longue série de soulèvements jacobites entre 1688 et 1746. Après que James II a été déposé en 1688 et remplacé par sa fille Mary II, statuant conjointement avec son mari et son premier Cousin William III, les Stuarts vivaient en exil, essayant occasionnellement de retrouver le trône. Les bastions du jacobitisme faisaient partie des Highlands écossais et des plaines du nord-est, de l'Irlande et des parties du nord de l'Angleterre. Un soutien important existait également au Pays de Galles et au Sud-Ouest de l'Angleterre. Les jacobites croyaient que l'interférence parlementaire avec la succession monarchique était illégale. Les catholiques espéraient également que les Stuarts mettraient fin à la reprise. En Ecosse, la cause jacobite s'emboîta dans les derniers affres du système du clan guerrier. L'emblème des Jacobites est le Cockat Blanc. La fête de la Rose blanche est célébrée le 10 juin, anniversaire de la naissance de l'ancien prétendant en 1688.
