En biochimie, une kinase est un type d'enzyme qui transfère les groupes phosphate à partir de molécules donneuses à haute énergie, telles que l'ATP, à des substrats spécifiques, un procédé appelé phosphorylation. Les kinases font partie de la plus grande famille de phosphotransférases. Les kinases ne doivent pas être confondues avec des phosphoryles, qui catalysent l'addition de groupes phosphate inorganiques à un accepteur, ou avec des phosphatases, qui éliminent les groupes phosphate. L'état de phosphorylation d'une molécule, qu'il s'agisse d'une protéine, d'un lipide ou d'un hydrate de carbone, peut affecter son activité, sa réactivité et sa capacité à lier d'autres molécules. Par conséquent, les kinases sont essentielles au métabolisme, à la signalisation cellulaire, à la régulation des protéines, au transport cellulaire, aux processus de sécrétion et à d'innombrables autres voies cellulaires.
