Klystron
Un klystron est un tube à vide à faisceau linéaire spécialisé, inventé en 1937 par les ingénieurs électriciens américains Russel et Sigurd Varian, utilisé comme amplificateur pour les hautes fréquences, des fréquences radio UHF dans la gamme des micro-ondes. Les klystrons à faible puissance sont utilisés comme oscillateurs locaux dans les récepteurs radar superhétérodynes, tandis que les klystrons haute puissance sont utilisés comme tubes de sortie dans les transmetteurs de télévision UHF, le relais hyperfréquence, la communication par satellite et les transmetteurs radar, et pour générer la puissance de commande pour les accélérateurs de particules modernes. Beaucoup de klystrons utilisent des guides d'ondes pour coupler l'énergie des micro-ondes à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur de l'appareil, bien qu'il soit également assez courant pour les klystrons à faible puissance et à fréquence inférieure d'utiliser des raccords de câbles coaxiaux à la place. Dans certains cas, une sonde de couplage est utilisée pour coupler l'énergie des micro-ondes à partir d'un klystron dans un guide d'onde externe séparé. Le guide d'onde de sortie d'un klystron peut être couplé dans son entrée pour créer un oscillateur électronique. Un klystron réflex est un type obsolète dans lequel le faisceau d'électrons a été réfléchi sur son chemin par une électrode à potentiel élevé, utilisée comme oscillateur.
