Lignan
Les lignans sont un groupe de composés chimiques présents dans les plantes. Les lignanes végétales sont des substances polyphénoliques dérivées de la phénylalanine par dimérisation d'alcools cinnamiques substitués, appelés monolignols, à un squelette de dibenzylbutane 2. Cette réaction est catalysée par des enzymes oxydatives et est souvent contrôlée par des protéines dirigent. De nombreux produits naturels, connus sous le nom de phénylpropanoïdes, sont constitués d'unités C6C3 dérivées d'unités cinnamiques, tout comme la chimie du terpène s'appuie sur des unités d'isoprène. La structure 3 est un néolignane, une structure formée en unissant les deux résidus de propylbenzène à l'autre que l'atome de carbone β de la chaîne latérale de propyle. Quelques exemples de lignanes sont le pinoresinol, la podophyllotoxine et la stganacine. Lorsqu'une partie de l'alimentation humaine, certaines lignanes sont métabolisées pour former des lignanes de mammifères connues sous le nom d'entérodol et d'entérocolone par des bactéries intestinales. Les lignanes qui peuvent être métabolisés pour former des lignans de mammifères sont le pinoresinol, le lariciresinol, le secoisolariciresinol, le matairesinol, l'hydroxymatairesinol, le syringarosinol et les sesamin. Les lignanes sont l'une des principales classes de phytoestrogènes, qui sont des produits chimiques pour les œstrogènes et agissent également comme antioxydants.
