Loup-garou
Un loup-garou, également connu sous le nom de lycanthrope, est un humain mythologique ou folklorique capable de changer de forme dans un loup ou une créature hybride semblable à un lobo-géant, soit délibérément, soit après avoir été placé sous une malédiction ou une affliction. Les premières sources de croyance en lycanthropie sont Petronius et Gervase de Tilbury. Le loup-garou est un concept répandu dans le folklore européen, existant dans de nombreuses variantes qui sont liées par un développement commun d'une interprétation chrétienne de la mythologie indo-européenne sous-jacente qui s'est développée pendant la période médiévale. Depuis le début de la période moderne, les croyances de loup-garou se sont également répandues dans le Nouveau Monde avec le colonialisme. La croyance chez le loup-garou se développe parallèlement à la croyance aux sorcières, au cours du Moyen Age tardif et de la période début moderne. À l'instar des épreuves de sorcellerie dans son ensemble, le procès de soi-disant loups-garous émerge dans ce qui est maintenant la Suisse au début du 15ème siècle et se répand dans toute l'Europe au 16ème, culminant au 17ème et décrochant au 18ème siècle.
