Lymphoblaste
Un lymphoblaste est une forme différente d'un lymphocyte naïf qui se produit lorsque le lymphocyte est activé par un antigène et augmente le volume par croissance du noyau et du cytoplasme, ainsi que par une nouvelle synthèse de l'ARNm et des protéines. Le lymphoblaste commence alors à se diviser et à faire des clones de ses cellules naïves originales. Enfin, les cellules divisantes se différencient en cellules effectrices, connues sous le nom de cellules plasmatiques, cellules T cytotoxiques et cellules T Helper. Les lymphoblastes sont des cellules immatures qui se différencient généralement pour former des lymphocytes matures. Normalement, les lymphoblastes se retrouvent dans la moelle osseuse, mais dans la leucémie lymphoblastique aiguë, les lymphoblastes prolifèrent de manière incontrôlable et se retrouvent en grand nombre dans le sang périphérique. La taille est comprise entre 10 et 20 μm. Bien que le lymphoblaste communément se réfère à une cellule précurseur dans la maturation des leucocytes, l'utilisation de ce terme est parfois incohérente. Le Consortium de recherche sur la leucémie lymphocytaire chronique définit un lymphoblaste comme «un lymphocyte A qui est devenu plus grand après avoir été stimulé par un antigène. Les lymphoblastes ressemblent à des lymphocytes immatures et ont été considérés comme des cellules précurseurs».
