Affirment que «les acides naphténiques sont principalement des acides carboxyliques cycloaliphatiques de 10 à 16 atomes de carbone». Les sels d'acides naphténiques, qui sont des naphténates, sont largement utilisés comme sources hydrophobes d'ions métalliques dans diverses applications.
