Morphogénèse
La morphogénèse est le processus biologique qui amène un organisme à développer sa forme. C'est l'un des trois aspects fondamentaux de la biologie du développement ainsi que le contrôle de la croissance cellulaire et de la différenciation cellulaire. Le processus contrôle la répartition spatiale organisée des cellules lors du développement embryonnaire d'un organisme. La morphogénèse peut avoir lieu également dans un organisme mature, dans une culture cellulaire ou dans des masses de cellules tumorales. La morphogénèse décrit également le développement de formes de vie unicellulaires qui n'ont pas de stade embryonnaire dans leur cycle de vie ou décrit l'évolution d'une structure corporelle dans un groupe taxonomique. Des réponses morphogénétiques peuvent être induites dans les organismes par des hormones, par des produits chimiques environnementaux allant de substances produites par d'autres organismes à des produits chimiques toxiques ou à des radionucléides rejetés comme polluants et d'autres plantes, ou par des contraintes mécaniques induites par la géométrie spatiale des cellules.
