Groupe minoritaire
Un groupe minoritaire est une catégorie sociologique au sein d'une population démographique. Plutôt qu'un «groupe social» relationnel, comme l'indique le terme, le terme se réfère à une catégorie qui est différenciée et définie par la majorité sociale, c'est-à-dire ceux qui détiennent la majorité des positions de pouvoir social dans une société. La différenciation peut être basée sur une ou plusieurs caractéristiques humaines observables, y compris, par exemple, l'origine ethnique, la race, le sexe, la richesse, la santé ou l'orientation sexuelle. L'utilisation du terme est appliquée à diverses situations et civilisations dans l'histoire, malgré sa mauvaise association populaire avec une minorité numérique et statistique. Dans les sciences sociales, le terme «minorité» sert à désigner des catégories de personnes qui occupent peu de postes de pouvoir social. Le terme «groupe minoritaire» se manifeste souvent parallèlement à un discours sur les droits civils et les droits collectifs qui ont pris de l'importance au XXe siècle. Les membres des groupes minoritaires sont enclins à un traitement différent dans les pays et les sociétés dans lesquels ils vivent. Cette discrimination peut être directement basée sur l'appartenance perçue d'un individu à un groupe minoritaire, sans tenir compte de la réussite personnelle de cet individu.
