Nième racine
En mathématiques, la nième racine d'un nombre x est un nombre r qui, lorsqu'il est élevé à la puissance de n, équivaut à x où n est le degré de racine. Une racine du degré 2 s'appelle une racine carrée et une racine du degré 3, une racine de cube. Les racines de degré supérieur sont référées en utilisant des nombres ordinaux, comme dans la quatrième racine, la vingtième racine, etc. Par exemple: ▪ 2 est une racine carrée de 4, puisque 22 = 4. ▪ -2 est aussi une racine carrée de 4, puisque 2 = 4. Un nombre réel ou un nombre complexe a n racines de degré n. Alors que les racines de 0 ne sont pas distinctes, les n-premières racines de tout autre nombre réel ou complexe sont distinctes. Si n est pair et x est réel et positif, l'une de ses nième racines est positive, l'une est négative et le reste est complexe mais pas réel; Si n est égal et x est réel et négatif, aucune des n premières racines n'est réelle. Si n est impair et x est réel, une nième racine est réelle et a le même signe que le radicand, tandis que les autres racines ne sont pas réelles.
