Goodyera
Goodyera est un genre généreux d'orchidées, l'un des environ 800 genres d'Orchidaceae décrits dans cette famille vaste et diversifiée. Le genre s'appelle le botaniste John Goodyer. Il existe environ 25 espèces de Goodyera dans le monde entier. Des rhizomes rapéts et des rosettes de feuilles à feuilles persistantes caractérisent le genre. Goodyera est étroitement liée au genre Spiranthes. Les fleurs de Goodyera sont caractérisées par un nectaire saccade de la lèvre avec un sommet en forme de bec. Les sépales et les pétales sont connivants sur la colonne. Pollinia in Goodyera est granulaire, contrairement à Cranichideae, un autre membre de cette tribu. Les orchidées de ce genre poussent dans des environnements allant des vallées alpines en Scandinavie à la laurisilva de la Macaronésie aux forêts de conifères nord-américaines. Il est répandu dans une grande partie de l'Europe, de l'Asie, de l'Australie, de l'Amérique du Nord et de diverses îles océaniques du Pacifique, de l'Inde et de l'Atlantique. Les «tresses de dames» sont un nom commun donné à certaines de ces espèces. Les quatre espèces endémiques en Amérique du Nord sont appelées «plantain de serpent à sonnette». De nombreuses espèces de Goodyera sont menacées dans au moins une partie de leur aire de répartition.
