Le rotavirus est la cause la plus fréquente de diarrhée grave chez les nourrissons et les jeunes enfants. C'est un genre de virus à ARN bicaténaire dans la famille des Reoviridae. Presque chaque enfant dans le monde a été infecté par un rotavirus au moins une fois à l'âge de cinq ans.
