Supergene
Un supergène est un groupe de gènes voisins sur un chromosome qui sont hérités ensemble en raison d'une liaison génétique étroite et sont fonctionnellement liés au sens de l'évolution, bien qu'ils soient rarement regroupés génétiquement. Les supergènes ont des effets cis causés par des loci multiples et des liens étroits. Ils sont classiquement polymorphes, et différents éléments codent pour différents effets de condition physique qui se combinent pour former un ensemble cohérent ou épistatique. Les deux supergènes classiques sont le locus Primula heterostyly, qui contrôle les types "pin" et "thrum", et le locus contrôlant le polymorphisme mimétique batesien dans les papillons papilio memnon. Par exemple, les morphes pin et thrum de Primula ont des effets sur la compatibilité génétique, et ont une longueur de style différente, une hauteur d'anther dans le tube de la corolle, la taille du pollen et la taille de la papille sur le stigmate. Chacun de ces effets est contrôlé par un locus différent dans le même supergène, mais des recombinants sont parfois trouvés avec des traits combinant ceux des morphes "pin" et "thrum". Les complexes de gènes, en revanche, ne sont que des groupes de gènes étroitement liés, souvent créés par duplication de gènes.
