Syngas
Le gaz de synthèse ou de synthèse est un mélange de gaz combustible composé principalement d'hydrogène, de monoxyde de carbone et très souvent de dioxyde de carbone. Le nom provient de son utilisation comme intermédiaire dans la création de gaz naturel synthétique et pour la production d'ammoniac ou de méthanol. Le gaz de synthèse est utilisé lorsqu'il est gazéifié et est transformé en électricité. Le Syngas est également utilisé comme intermédiaire dans la production de pétrole synthétique destiné à être utilisé comme combustible ou lubrifiant via le procédé Fischer-Tropsch et précédemment le procédé Mobil methanol to essence. Le gaz de synthèse est combustible et souvent utilisé comme combustible de moteurs à combustion interne. Il a moins de la moitié de la densité énergétique du gaz naturel. Les procédés de production comprennent le réformage à la vapeur du gaz naturel ou des hydrocarbures liquides pour produire de l'hydrogène, la gazéification du charbon, de la biomasse et dans certains types d'installations de gazéification résiduaires.
