Vote tactique
Dans les systèmes de vote, le vote tactique se produit, lors d'élections avec plus de deux candidats, lorsqu'un électeur soutient un candidat autre que sa préférence sincère afin d'éviter un résultat indésirable. Il a été montré par le théorème de Gibbard-Satterthwaite que, si une méthode de vote pour choisir une de plusieurs options est complètement sans stratégie, elle doit être dictatoriale ou non déterministe. Par exemple, la méthode de vote au bulletin aléatoire, qui sélectionne au hasard le bulletin de vote d'un électeur unique et l'utilise pour déterminer le résultat, est sans stratégie, mais peut entraîner la sélection de différents choix si appliqué plusieurs fois au même jeu de bulletins de vote. Par exemple, dans une élection de simple pluralité, un électeur pourrait parfois obtenir un résultat «meilleur» en votant pour un candidat moins préféré mais plus populaire en général. Cependant, le type de vote tactique et la mesure dans laquelle il affecte le caractère de la campagne et les résultats de l'élection varient considérablement d'un système de vote à l'autre.
